Discin' CRAZY Weekend

(MAPLE HILL PRO SHOP)

As far as my disc golf life goes, Its been on a high. Game's developing, leagues going great, & I'm playing on a little bit more consistent level. Which is making average round scores drop. I'm not satisfied though. I want to play more. I want to travel to different course's more. I want to meet more great local pros. I want to follow the PDGA National Tour More. I want to be involved with everything disc golf & be more apart of the scene basically.
First thing, "Play More". I Got out of work Friday morning, 6-8-12, with the rest of the day off. So I told my self let's start the weekend off right. Call my buddy Jim & we were off to Maple Hill to play a few rounds of disc. Arrived at 10:30am. Check in. Buy a disc or two. Then have the guy working the counter to run my name in the computer. Reason is to see if any of my lost discs previously came back to the shop. 1 did. TBird. Nice. Good start. So we head off to start the day off on the RED "beginner" course to warm up. Par is 55... we cruised our way through, having fun along the way. We both bagged up 2 birdies a piece. I finished 62 (+7), Jim finished 65 (+10). Stop back into the Pro Shop. Grab Some Ice Cream & a Candy Bar or two with a beverage. Now we are off to play our 2nd round. This time WHITE "Intermediate" Course, Par is 57. This time we put a fun little $1 bet on whoever gets the most birdies in the round. I bagged 2 finishing 70 (+13) & Jim Bagged 3 finishing 67 (+10) & took home the DOLLAR. By this time it was 3:30pm & I was more then satisfied for the day. Discin Wise.
Saturday, I wake up. NO WORK! Yes! I head back to Maples Hill But this time meeting Mike & Dan. Arriving there around 10:45am. We warm up on the RED "Beginner" course. I finished 61 (+6). Mike finished 61 (+6). Dan finished 63 (+8). So then we go ahead into the White Course. Mike & I Both shot 68's (+11)'s & Dan Shot a 66 (+9). Dan had to leave for work so Mike & I decided to stay & play one more round on the Red Course. Mike shot his first under Par Scoring finishing 54 (-1) & I Better my Red Course Score again By This time finishing 60 (+5). So now were done for the day. But Mike wants to drive a minute down the road to get a disc from Pyramids.

UNDERNEATH BASKET ON HOLE # 14 PYRAMIDS DCG

The plan was for Mike to buy a disc but a plan never goes as planned. We buy a round there. Playing the Silver Course. Par is 56... Tired & High on Weed & Discin', I Finished 61 (+5)  & Mike Finished 60 (+4) 7:15pm. Discin' for 7 1/2 hrs & it's time to go home!

Sunday, I Did have to work in the morning but did you think that was going to stop me from getting to a near by course & playing a round. Mike & I got together again. Hodge's Dam DGC. Par is 55.. I Finished 62 (+7) & Mike finished 58 (+3). The Discin' CRAZY Weekend was over. 3 Days. 16+ Hours. 7 Rounds. 4 Course's. & All my scores I was happy with knowing there is alot more room for improvement. Will Deffently Need to Do Again.

Kansas City Wide Open 2012

The 2012 Kansas City Wide Open is the 3rd stop of the PDGA's National Tour & alot of questions rang through the air. In the Man's Open division; Will Paul Mcbeth go 3 for 3 for National Tour wins so far this season? Or will somebody such as Will Schusterick or David Feldberg get their first National Tour win of the year? In the Women's Open division: Will Valarie Jenkins dominate ? Or will the Women's PDGA Rookie of the Year - Catrina Allen get the win?
Don't know what the National Tour is? Then you can look thru my older post's & find one I wrote about the National Tour Series itself. The Kansas City Wide Open is a 3 day, 5 round, 5 different course's held tournament. With the Lead card in both divisions playing a Final 9 together, to determine the winner. Held on June 1st (Fri.) - June 3rd (Sun.).
We all know that Disc Golf has not yet, earned the respect to be highlighted or even talked about on ESPN. But because we have great people who never give up trying to expand the sport, us PDGA fans were able to watch live coverage by DiscGolfPlanet.tv. Those guys work hard to give us live coverage of the lead card for both divisions, thru out each round of the tournament. Play by Play commentating, post game interviews, & Q&As with some special guests who dedicate their life to the game.
As far as the tournament itself, Paul Mcbeth  & Will Schusterick were tied at -27, I believe through 3 rounds. The start of the 4th round Mcbeth jumped out to a few stroke lead only 3 or 4 holes in before a few bad RIPS and lost of concentration, Mcbeth lost his lead. Feldberg came out of no where, starting the day 4 stokes behind, ended up finishing the round with a few stroke lead. Round 5 Started early Sunday morning. Mcbeth still not over yesterday, got knocked outta the lead card & didnt even make the Final 9 Hole. Where only the lead cards from both divisons play together to determine the champion. Matt Orum finshed strong, starting sunday on the lead card & making the Final 9. But all & all Feldberg held it down, the veteran of the sport. 35 years age young. Beautiful roller shots & putting shows exactly why he is a long time pro.
In the girls divison Valarie jenkins basically lead the hole tournment. -2 through the first 3 rounds but finshing +4 with the clear victory. Catrina allen finshed third, 6 strokes behind the leader at +10. Paige Pierce finshed out the top 3 for the womens divison who played in the Final 9 with the lead card from the mens divison.
Nikko Locastro dropped out of the 2nd round to rest himself, with a sore shoulder & back. Not wanting to further injure himself. But locastro did walk around with the lead card, supporting his friends. Giving his in put on every ones game during Q&As with the guys from Disc Golf Planet.

All & All it was great that I was able to watch most of the tournament with Disc Golf Planet. It makes it alot easier to follow all your favorite DG Pro's. Also being able to be a fan of the National Tour Series, Thank You Again.

Buffinville Dam League

I hear all the time that the best way to get better at the game of disc golf is to not only practice but to join your local league. So that's what I did. Talking to other disc golfers around my local course (Buffinville), I found out the day & time, league gets together. Wednesdays, Rain or Shine. 5:30pm Tee-Time, 5 dollar buy - in, & there is a Birdie pot. Must put in least one dollar each week to be eligible to win. There are 4 holes that I can't remember which ones they are, that you must birdie ALL 4 holes to win the pot. If no winner, pot carrys over until the next week, so on & so forth. Usually 1 or 2 CTP prizes, how you can tell who won the CTP prize I have no idea but thats how they do things around there haha. Being one of the local kids on the course I knew least 1 or 2 people playing in the league so I wasnt to shy about jumping in. You get put into groups of 4 & play singles. But at the end of the night, when you tally up all the scores. Your given a partner, where you guys take the best score between both of y'all and put them together to get a team score. Plus there is a overall singles winner. SO if your good there's a few ways to win a couple bucks. We play 1 round of 18holes. All the "Big Boy" holes. Meaning where teeing all from the longer shots over the water such as Infamous Hole #9 and #10, #15, & # 17(from the top of the stairs). Its a great time, A great atmosphere, & only 2 complete weeks in I feel already like I have gotten better. My first week, after a 12 hr work day 7 rushing there. I sign up with a empty bag, no discs, (well not alot), & shoot a 69 (+12). Now excited to play again, with a stocked up bag, I convinced my buddys Ben & MikeV to play in league with me. My only goal was to beat a 69. I HAD A ROUGH NIGHT, Shooting OB 3 times in a row of the tee pad & finishing off with a 9 on the 3rd hole in. Last six holes I played well, paring all of them but I finished a 75 (+18). NOT WHAT I WANTED AT ALL. So now I'm just waiting for it to finally be Wednesday night again So I can hopefully shoot a round in the 60s. At the end of the year they have a overall winner for the league. My main focus is to have fun and get better while picking up new tips & meetin new people. Its just something for me to look forward to during the work week instead of trying to find someone to play a round with random days & times. I HAVE A SET DATE & TIME NOW where i will be doing nothing but playing disc golf then. JOIN YOUR LOCAL LEAGUE TODAY!

Now I'm not going to sit & here say I know all Ultimate shit & what not. I barley Know anything but This is what happen, I clearly Started playing DG last August 2011. Watching Disc Trick Shots on Youtube, I ran Across a Video by Brodie Smith. Two Time National Champion in Ultimate Down in Florida & for other people, He's the Trick shot guy who threw the "Boat Catch". Anyways finding out about him, is what help me run across ultimate. Then across the AUDL before is got underway, which is already underway & 7 weeks in the season. Brodie Smith being the only reason why I follow Professional Ultimate As long with Professional Disc Golf.
So far AUDL has 8 teams, 2 Divisons. With Teams Already being annouced, who will be competeing in the 2013 & 2014 seasons. So CLEARLY this isnt a One season & out sport. It's gunna be here until then. I am a fan, I have a Favorite Team Indy Wild Cats (Team Brodie Plays For). Every week I'm checking the standing, highlights, &/or watching the whole game by either buying it or watching the free ones. (Games). I Do plan on going to atleast 1 game, Sadly I Dont think Wild Cats will be playing in it because of where I Live but thats ok. I'm new to the sport & my love for it is growing.
This summer will be my first few games played of ultimate. On Sundays, In Sutton,Ma... there is a group of people, who get together and play a few games, & I will be participating. 2nd stop of the PDGA National Tour

There are hundreds of thousands of Disc golf tournaments around the world, all divisions, every year but to be the biggest & the baddest . . . you compete in the National Tour.

To get a better idea of what the National Tour is, I went out my way & took this off the Pdga.com Website - "The 2012 PDGA National Tour will feature the top players in the Men’s and Women’s Open divisions as they compete in the fourth annual “Drive for the Championship”. The “Drive” will consist of the first five National Tour Elite Series events plus the series finale Vibram Open. Players will accumulate points throughout the season as they compete for trophies, cash bonuses and the title of 2012 PDGA Tour Series Champion."

So you see 6 stops in total & the 2nd stop "Master's Cup" was this past weekend in Santa Cruz, CA. Where one of my favorite DG "Paul Mcbeth" Took his 2nd National Tour Series win this year. [Memorial Championship Winner in Feb. 2012]... 2 for 2 & is obviously leading in the point standings. Congrats to him & the other players. I can not wait to watch these guys play in Mass @ Maple Hill Farm. Where the Final Stop "Vibram Open" of the National Tour series will be played in August.
